Artscape Wychwood Barns | Daniel et Daniel

Surrounded by a pocket of forests and heritage homes in midtown Toronto, Wychwood Barns is just one of the Artscape venues in Daniel et Daniel’s portfolio. Serving as a transit repair facility over in the early 1900’s, the Barns took on a transformation and reopened in 2008. The facility’s design has received several architectural awards for its green design and is currently home to artist studios, not-for-profit organizations, a gallery, and farmers market. Preserving much of its original architecture, its soaring ceilings, and use of passive sustainable design allows an abundance of natural light into the venue. The versatility of the barn, polished concrete floors, exposed brick and dramatic backdrop makes Artscape Wychwood Barns the only venue one of its kind in Toronto. With three additional spaces to accommodate for spillover, it is the perfect setting for weddings, conferences, outdoor festivals, not-for-profit galas, or smaller private gatherings.

Covered Street Barn

The largest and most versatile space on the grounds, the Covered Street Barn features a full-length skylight that drenches the room with warm, natural light. Glass garage-style doors on each side of the room look to onto surrounding parkland and can open in the warmer months to allow fresh air circulation. The Covered Street Barn can also partition into smaller spaces with fabric sheers to for more intimate events.

The Stop’s Courtyard & Classroom

Equipped with a full kitchen the Stop Community Food Centre’s Green Barn and Courtyard is perfect for hosting cocktail parties and fund-raising events. The open air area features a sheltered patio, beautiful garden and a wood-burning oven. Both spaces are available as an independent event space or used to accommodate spillover from larger events inside the Covered Street Barn.

Christie Open-Air Courtyard

Located at the front of the site, the west-facing Christie Open Air Courtyard offers additional outdoor space that can be tented to increase the area of the Covered Street Barn.

The Community Gallery

Facing Benson Avenue on the northeast side, the Peter McKendrick Community Gallery is available for rental as a spillover space for large events or independently for board meetings and smaller gatherings. The gallery’s high ceilings, sealed concrete flooring, and adjustable track lighting make the space a desirable location for art exhibitions.
